Review: Hey Duggee Magazine
Today is the launch of the brand new CBeebies Hey Duggee magazine and I’ve managed to get my hands on a copy for a sneaky peak!Hey Duggee is one of my Chunk’s favourites, so to now have a magazine alongside it is definitely welcomed in this house! (If you haven’t seen it, go watch it now, because whilst it’s fun and educational for your kids, it has a lot of subtle adult humour that means you can happily watch ten episodes in a row without losing the will to live).
The first edition of the magazine, which is aimed at 2-6 year olds, comes with a free baking play set and inside is a recipe to make biscuits in the shape of Duggee. Chunk and I already plan to make these biscuits on the next rainy afternoon and no doubt I will be posting photos on here so watch this space.
Like most CBeebies magazines it includes stickers which have specific places within the magazine to be put. I enjoy watching Chunk do this type of activity because some of the stickers are answers to things, and others are matching symbols and numbers and it helps me keep track of his learning.
The magazine targets 7 key areas of learning which are:
Feeling good (confidence building activities)
Expressive Arts and Design (using their imagination to create illustrations)
Maths (shapes, numbers, sizes, patterns)
Literacy (learning to write, sounds, letters)
Communication and Language (expressing ideas and listening to others)
Finding Out (featuring places and themes)
Let’s Move (encouraging them to learn physical movements like jumping, cutting and drawing)
Each edition features one of Duggee’s badges and a little story about how he helped the squirrels earn their badges, and this time it was the cake badge which linked nicely with the free gift.
There is also a cute bedtime story at the end of the magazine which I thought was a nice touch, as well as activities including creating a Duggee Kitchen for the free play set, colouring, writing activities and a quiz.
Chunk spent a good hour going through the magazine with the stickers and over the last couple of days he keeps referring back to it to look at the pictures and to read the stories with me. I was quite impressed with the free gift and how it linked in with further activities I could do with him. The plan is to help him make some Duggee biscuits and I will then give him the cake badge that also came with the free gift before I give him a Duggee hug!
