Homemade Easter Gift Ideas & Mini Egg Brownies

19th April 2014

This is the first Easter that my son really understands things such as hunting for eggs and of course eating chocolate, so I’m making it a bit more special for him this year.

I went to good old Poundland and found Easter baskets, yellow straw-like paper, some colour-in bunnies and plastic eggs.

I loaded the baskets up with the straw, a £1 Easter egg I got from Asda, DVDs, face paints and the colour-in bunnies.

Once the boys get their baskets tomorrow, they will have fun emptying them to play with all their treats. The baskets will then be used to do a little egg hunt in Nanny’s garden.

I found a free leaflet in Sainsbury’s this week that had cut-out eggs for kids Easter hunts, so I will  place these around the garden. I will fill the plastic eggs I bought with chocolate mini eggs and hide these too.

My son did a similar hunt at playgroup recently and loved going around the playground trying to find as many paper eggs as he could for his basket, which gave me the idea!

I’ve even baked a mini egg brownie, which I came across on BBC Good Food. It’s really simple to do, but I was shocked at how much sugar and butter goes into it (diet really needs to happen after this weekend!)

Most of it has come out lovely, but I didn’t let the middle cook long enough, so we ate a very runny middle for our pudding tonight, and cut up the rest for tomorrow’s Easter with the family.

All in all, I’m quite pleased with what I have achieved this year, and as the boys get bigger I will really enjoy creating difficult, but fun, Easter egg hunts and getting even more creative!

What are you doing for Easter this year?

Fab ideas, I too got the plastic eggs and filled them with little sweets for my son. Hes nearly 2 so I got him some alternative gifts too as I didnt want him overdosing on chocolate.

Ohh looks good. I used an old plant pot as an Easter basket but it broke half way round the garden filling it up with choc eggs! I love Poundland for stuff like this too…genius. Vicky x #TWTWC

Aww these look lovely! Monkey's just starting to understand too so we did our first easter hunt as well. Think he's had more chocolate this weekend than he's had in his whole life so far! I'm sure it will be the same every year from now on! Thanks for linking with #creativechallenge

We didn't do anything for Easter this year as our girls are only two, but will be sure to do something along these lines next year. Thanks for linking up #binkylinky
