Degustabox Review& Discount Offer- Yum!

13th August 2014
Whenever someone offers me the chance to sample food, I’m straight on it (as you can tell from my ever-growing gut) so can you imagine my face when I got to sample an entire box of goodies?!

Degustabox send monthly boxes to customers that contain exciting new food and drink products that are hitting our superstores. For £12.99 per month you can get a huge box of 9 to 14 surprise products each month, plus handy recipe cards and the occasional coupon!

In this month’s box there was all this beautiful stuff, which included:
Portlebay Popcorn
Maggi seasoning sachets
Green & Blacks chocolate
Dr Oetker cake decorations
Hornsby Blueberry Cider
Frank and the Berry cereal bar
Zeo drinks
My July Degustabox

I immediately wolfed the sweet and salty popcorn, because that’s my current obsession, but was more weary of the other two flavours, as they were bacon & maple syrup and chilli & lime. However, I mustered up all the strength I had and gave them a try (poor me…not).

I wasn’t keen on the bacon and syrup one on the first mouthful, but think my brain when into auto pilot and assumed I wouldn’t like it, because I persisted and took a few more mouthfuls and was then HOOKED. Definitely showed me I need to always try a few mouthfuls before judging a dish!
Therefore, for all of you sprout haters out there, try a few more bites and then judge (steamed smothered in gravy of course).

The chilli and lime again I wasn’t sure about, but I did enjoy the sweet lime against the mild kick of the chilli.

My next test was the Green & Blacks Lemon Chocolate. To be fair I’m still not sure about this. I love chocolate like the next person, but I found myself kinda enjoying it and kinda finding it odd at the same time. I still ate the whole thing though so what does that show you! I think it would taste nice melted over a flapjack now I think about it…

I then got into my newly decorated kitchen and attempted a Maggi sachet: Potato and Leek Bake. This was a nice and simple recipe, involving browning some chicken chunks, peeling and chopping some potatoes and leeks, and bunging this in a pan with the Maggi sauce. It was then put into an oven dish and topped with cheese. I also added a packet of scrunched up crisps to help the cheese topping have more of a crunch.

Potato & Leek Bake

I served it with a salad consisting of yellow peppers, tomatoes, salad leaves and cucumber and Chunk LOVED it. It’s definitely going to be one I will be making more often, especially on a busy day such as nursery days.

Of course I accompanied this meal with a Hornsby cider, which was delicious. I had tried one of their other flavours on a recent holiday and really enjoyed it, so was pretty pleased when I saw these in the box! They are a beautiful fruity flavour and are just really easy to drink, and lovely at the end of a long, tiring day with Chunk!

My final test was with the Dr Oetker cake decorations. My uncle is currently over from Canada and we celebrated his birthday last week, so it was the perfect opportunity to try the Eton Mess flavouring.

I made some vanilla cupcakes, before piping some homemade buttercream on top and then sprinkled the Eton Mess on the top. The sprinkles are dried strawberries and meringue pieces and taste gorgeous.

I was quite proud of my cakes, because it was the first time I have ever used a piping bag- not bad for a first attempt eh?! They tasted lovely too which is the most important part of any baking experience. Chunk enjoyed eating the sprinkles and buttercream and then using the sponge as a weapon which was quite amusing, but that’s another story!

Gorgeous Cakes With Eton Mess Sprinkles

Overall I really enjoyed the box and would recommend giving it a try. I’m not sure I would want to pay as much as £12.99 per month for it, but they do show the costings of each item inside the box which conveys the box would have been far pricier if I had bought all the items from the shop myself.

Due to being such AMAZING readers, I have a discount for you if you want to get your hands on these scrummy boxes. To get a £3 discount, use the code EUK98.

*I was kindly given the box for the purpose of this review. No payment was given so all views are honest and my own*
