My Fitness Journey: Progress Update

6th November 2015
I’ve just noticed that I’ve not updated you on my fitness journey for a couple of months since I started paying more attention to my sugar intake so thought I better let you know what’s happened since then!

I’ve continued to try out some #sugarfreefood recipes and when things have calmed down at home I will be uploading a few so you can have a go too.

Amazingly I have also managed to keep a fitness regime up WITHOUT GIVING UP after a month or two. I’m in month three of regular workouts with just one (occasionally two) rest days per week.

I started by dusting off my well-used 30 Day Shred DVD which I have used on and off for about 5 years now but never managed to get to the third level…UNTIL NOW!

There are three levels on the DVD and you spend ten days on each level. It’s a twenty minute workout so something that can easily be fitted in to your day or evening once the kids are in bed. In the past I have been trying 45 minute workouts and they have just been too hard to slot in so this definitely is the best way to restart fitness in my opinion.

I even managed to do it some of the days whilst Chunk was watching a couple of his favourite CBeebies programmes, so it meant I could actually do some work or relax in the evenings instead of work out which was lovely.

I was so proud of myself for completing the thirty days and I’ve noticed that getting myself into a daily routine of exercising to complete the thirty days really prepared me for carrying on afterwards. It’s now at the stage where it is just automatically scheduled into my day and there have even been some occasions where I have been on a rest day or had a rough day and managed to talk myself into having a workout which is something I never believed would happen!

Since finishing shred I have now started to alternate a couple of other Jillian Michaels DVDs and found some of my old ones featuring old reality TV stars like Kate Lawlor (her cardio combat is pretty good!) and I’m really starting to enjoy it.

My fitness has definitely improved and I’m noticing that I have a lot more energy during the day and I am feeling a bit better in myself because I have more endorphins giving me a natural high.

I’ve not actually lost much weight at all, because my eating still needs to improve big time, but I have lost inches- 9 to be exact.
Muscle and fat weigh the same, but muscle takes up a lot less space, so what I’ve basically done is replace some of my fat with muscle so I am a very happy girl!

I have noticed my arms and bottom have definitely lost weight and my body shape is changing. I have been taking photos of my body every few weeks to try and compare and it’s amazing how much difference there is despite the couple of pounds weight loss.

I took this photo yesterday and am starting to feel happier in my skin again which is great. I just really now need to focus on improving my eating to see whether the weight then falls off so this new muscle can be shown off more!

This time around I think my motivation has remained because I have also joined a couple of fitness Facebook groups where I see daily selfies from people who have just completed a workout and this encourages me to do the same. We set challenges for each other to complete certain exercises and one of the ladies even runs a monthly draw to win a fitness T shirt by completing 23 workouts during one month, and this has helped me SO much to keep going!

Apparently it takes 21 days to create a habit and three months to maintain it, so I hope I am now at the point where these workouts are here to stay.

But if anyone can help kick my butt into shape about my eating it would be appreciated!!!
