Competition: Win A Flower Box Subscription! https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/flowercompetition/ https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/flowercompetition/#comments Sat, 05 Dec 2015 08:59:00 +0000 http://test.singleparentpessimist.co.uk/2015/12/05/flowercompetition/ I was sent a gorgeous flower box from Beards & Daisies this week and they have been kind enough to give one of you lucky readers a three month flower box subscription worth £59.99! The flower boxes are packaged so they can fit through your letterbox, meaning you don’t even have to wait in for delivery, and you can pick one of six different flower boxes depending on the colour scheme and flowers you prefer! I received The Skylark flower set which were beautiful and I was impressed with how well protected they were in their rather pretty packaging. This is definitely the type of flower box I will be buying for family and friends as gifts for Christmas and get well soon sympathies, as they look a lot more elegantly wrapped and presented compared to some of the well-known flower companies I’ve used in the past who have just put a plain, fat box outside my door. To be in with a chance to win this for yourself (or for a friend for Christmas) simply complete the entry form below. Good luck! a Rafflecopter giveaway Follow me on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook.

Gift Review: Pop Goes Your Name CD https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/popgoesyourname/ https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/popgoesyourname/#comments Wed, 15 Oct 2014 08:21:00 +0000 http://test.singleparentpessimist.co.uk/2014/10/15/popgoesyourname/ Music has always been a huge passion of mine, as I love to dance. Even at the age of three I knew the entire choreography of the majority of Michael Jackson’s music videos (yes, including the groin grabs and moonwalk!). So this love of dance and music has always been something I’ve hoped my own children will get into, and I’ve already subjected Chunk to his first ballet class recently! He was a little bopper as a baby, but more recently he has not wanted to shake his tush with mummy to the music channels and I’ve started to slightly panic, so I was excited to get the opportunity to try out a music CD personalised for Chunk. Pop Goes Your Name is a new company that offer fun music albums personal to your child. Every song features their name, and the songs are about going out and about, naptime, play and even mealtimes. Personalised CD Fun! The company was formed by a British couple after they created a little album for their own child, Noah. They noticed how much he enjoyed it and after their extended families started to request albums for their children, they decided to offer them worldwide. I love that they are not your stereotypical “nursery rhyme” songs, and that they actually have rock, pop and ballad-style beats. My favourite song is about mealtimes as I love the deep, Barry White impersonator voice and the funky beat, so for once I have a child’s album that I even enjoy listening to! I would totally recommend this as a quirky stocking gift this Christmas for any young child or baby and this is one of those rare children’s albums that their parents won’t hate you for buying! I was given one Pop Goes Your Name CD for the purpose of this review. No payment was received and all opinions are honest and my own.  Follow me on Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook.

My Top Mother’s Day Gift Ideas https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/my-top-mothers-day-gift-ideas/ https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/my-top-mothers-day-gift-ideas/#comments Sat, 08 Mar 2014 21:31:00 +0000 http://test.singleparentpessimist.co.uk/2014/03/08/my-top-mothers-day-gift-ideas/ Mother’s Day; It’s already that time of year again, so I’ve been frantically trying to find unique, but affordable presents for my mum, nan and sister. Every year the shops seem to have the same, tired cards, flowers, chocolates, teddies and mugs, and they BORE me, so I’ve hunted high and low and found some absolute beauties! Here are my top Mother’s Day gift ideas, and as a special treat for my lovely readers, there are discounts and giveaways too! Enjoy… The Wisdom of Kids This book of children’s hilarious one-liners will definitely put a smile on any mums face this Mother’s Day, including my moody chops! It is a quick, simple, but funny read, and some of the children’s views on things are actually really thought-provoking, whilst others are just plain comedy! One of my favourites is “If you can’t remember your age, just look in the back of your pants. Mine say five to six.” The award-winning book is currently on special offer on Amazon, and the usual price is only £6.99, so it’s a perfect little pressie from a toddler or young child to mummy (dads take note). The book’s author, Soula Zavacopoulos, has also used some of the quotes as greeting cards, which I definitely need to buy for a few of my mummy friends to stick on their fridges as a stress reliever. Soula also designs Mother’s Day cards, and the one featured in my photo is one that mum can scratch with a coin to reveal a message- something I’ve not seen on a card before! More of her imaginative card designs can be seen here. Katie’s Kali Jewels I randomly stumbled across this rather talented mummy when she recently bought some second hand baby clothes from me on Facebook, and I noticed she makes beautiful jewellery. We got chatting, and I found out Katie makes handmade pieces from recycled and collected jewellery as a hobby. After having her first child, Katie was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which led to her becoming housebound. She started to make jewellery as a form of escapism from this, and now her 9-year-old daughter also helps to make some of the pieces, and even product-tests the children’s jewellery! As well as selling these pieces, Katie shares her jewellery-making advice and tips on her blog, as well as competitions and charities that she donates pieces too. Just from looking at some of the photos on Katie’s blog of her pieces, you can see the time and effort that is put into each one. Prices range from £1.50 to £25, and Katie especially loves making personalised charms for people. She is currently teaching herself how to stamp jewellery for a brand new range she’s creating. I got this stunning sterling silver cuff from Katie as a Mother’s Day present to myself, and was impressed that even the packaging is carefully thought out; It’s wrapped in a soft, lilac drawstring bag, and then put into a handmade, pretty gift bag, which saves you having to wrap anything for your mum! Katie has kindly given me this special Mother’s Day bracelet to give away to one of you lovely readers- click here to enter the competition. Love Annie I came across another talented lady, but this time on Twitter (I’m a confessed Twitter-aholic). Annie creates gorgeous personalised paper cut pictures that can announce births, weddings and anniversaries, or can feature quotes/sentiments. What I love is how Annie cuts every tiny part of the picture into it’s shape using a hand scalpel! These must take HOURS, and I’m so impressed with all of the detail she uses. I chose something for my son to give to his nan, and it says “Home is where Gan Gan is” which sums up perfectly how me and Chunk feel about my amazing mum! Within 3 days it arrived at my door, and I was stunned at how beautiful it looked in it’s light wood frame. Even the tag that comes with it is cut by Annie, which is why I included it in the photo! For the small sum of £19.99, my mum now has a beautiful, timeless image that can remain in her home for years to come, which I feel is far more special (and probably a darn sight cheaper) than a large bouquet of flowers. I’ve already got my eye on another of Annie’s pictures, which consists of a family of birds and then your family name underneath, as seen in this pic: To look at Annie’s range, click here or like her page on Facebook here.
