DIY / Upcycling: A Shoerack

The saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” has yet again been proved by yours truly.

I visited my mother the other day and as I rolled up the drive I noticed her neighbour had left out an old, wooden shoe rack with their rubbish.

It was still fully-functioning but just didn’t look too great, so feeling sorry for it I took it into my mother’s garden and spruced it up within an hour.

As you know I am currently very in love with the Rustoleum Chalk Paints I have been testing out, so this time I went for the ‘Clotted Cream’ shade and added ‘Dusky Pink’ to a couple of the bars just to make it a little unique.

No sanding down or preparation was needed due to chalk paint being absolutely amazing, and I sealed it with Rustoleum Clear Sealant.

I like the finished piece, although my sister isn’t a fan of the pink bits. It did look good when it was plain cream too, but I wanted to experiment with the block colour effect a bit.

It now lives in my mother’s porch and I feel happy that it wasn’t just dumped at the local tip. If we spent more time upcycling our old furniture rather than buying new, could you imagine how much less landfill there would be?
