It’s literally his OBSESSION. As programmes go though I don’t mind, because Bing has taught me quite a lot about parenting which is something I never thought I would be saying about a toddler’s programme! Bing (left) and Flop (right) Each episode is only about five minutes, but they seem to cover so many relevant things, such as behaviour, tantrums, loss, potty training, games and so much more. Flop is the carer of Bing and he is who has really helped me most. Just watching the way he deals with Bing’s tantrums or times of sadness has shown me so many more techniques that I can use with Chunk. It’s also shown me some of the things I have been doing not so well at all and made me take a long hard look at my parenting, and I’m thankful for this. Flop never seems to get angry and he has great ways of calming Bing down, from distraction to reassurance and just being gentle and calm. In the heat of the moment I can find it so hard to keep my cool, but seeing how it can help has really hit home. I also love that my son and nephew are hooked to this programme and it teaches them really positive things. Chunk has learnt what shadows are and plays games with his, he likes to help tidy up more because Bing plays funny games with the hoover that eats all the leftovers on the floor, and he has learnt a lot of new words through the programme. Bing and his Friends It’s also inspired me for things to do with Chunk when I am stuck, such as chalking pictures outside on the pavement, making our own bubbles and having a goodbye box for broken toys that cannot be fixed. Now this isn’t an advert for the programme, please don’t roll your eyes, I am just genuinely quite surprised at how much both Chunk and I are getting from a five minute cartoon! The characters are brilliant, from the little toddler Pando who is always just in his pants as he hates wearing trousers, to the typical inquisitive and hater of losing Bing Bunny. #My3Things Positive Parenting Motivator: Week 6 https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/3things6/ https://singleparentpessimist.co.uk/3things6/#comments Fri, 29 Aug 2014 10:03:00 +0000 http://test.singleparentpessimist.co.uk/2014/08/29/3things6/ As you know #My3Things is my way to try to value myself and my parenting a bit more, so I’ve created this and a linky for other bloggers to join in with too. Each week I list three things that have not gone so well that week, three things I want to focus on improving next week, and ending the post with three things I’ve done really well. The reason it’s in this order is because you should always end on a positive!  It’s not about telling yourself off, or criticising, it’s about self improvement and recognising the skills and good things about us which we always ignore. Yes it starts by looking at what wasn’t too good, but this is so you can reflect on why these may have gone wrong and then look at how to avoid this next week- we learn from our mistakes! The linky is to keep me and you guys motivated- thanks to all those who joined in last week and hope to see you again this week!  If you don’t have time to write a post like this, feel free to link up with a post you’ve written this week showing happy parenting times or achievements! 3 Things That Were Not So Good This Week Didn’t handle my son’s face being scratched up by a girl at nursery very well initially! I have been using my phone when playing with Chunk to check work emails. Shouting at Chunk occasionally during his tantrums rather than keeping my cool. 3 Things I Want To Focus On Next Week Carry on working out and eating better. Find some more things for us to do indoors on the rainy days to keep him entertained. Avoiding shouting and keeping my voice low and firm. 3 Things I’ve Done WELL This Week I have managed to finally start exercising and eating a lot less junk and lost 5lbs already! I am spending more little bits of quality time with Chunk and he is responding well to this- took him on a bus for the very first time the other day to go to the Sea Life Centre. I have been a bit more inventive with our dinners now I have a slow cooker. Now It’s Your Turn…   Follow me on Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook

Not being a good girl with my sleeping, so I have been a little irritable during the day. Shouting at Chunk occasionally during his tantrums rather than keeping my cool. 3 Things I Want To Focus On Next Week Getting my healthy eating on track. Finishing my latest piece of work so I can concentrate on this blog and some fitness. Avoiding shouting and keeping my voice low and firm. 3 Things I’ve Done WELL This Week I have managed to utilise my time without Chunk well this week, ensuring I have got as much work done as possible. I am spending more little bits of quality time with Chunk and he is responding well to this. I got Chunk christened this week and it reminded me just how special he is to me.
