I know the feeling well. My two start going ape if they have not been out. I have, like you, resorted to taking my youngest out to a shopping centre for a play in the lifts (he is two) and going up and down on the escalators:)

As you were saying hun, that all men you have come across aren't living up to the standard's in which us mother's do when it comes to children.
You need to look really hard as my partner took on my 1 year old daughter and has been nothing but a huge support to her, you wouldn't believe he is not her dad, unlike her real one which sounds just like your ex for that matter. My partner and I have now had a son of our own and are also expecting our second together but as we class it our third (his suggestion not mine). He's an amazing dad and will go without just so the children can have what they want/need. He's a diamond in the rough.

As for your ex controlling your life, this is not fully true, after him having no involvement in your son's life (doesn't matter that he pays CSA) that means contact physically and mentally. And has been no support for the child that after a period of I think it's 2 years you can go to court and have his PR removed. You can also apply to the court without your ex's permission to change your son's surname too. You can move out the country as if he's had no contact and hasn't shown sign's of wanting contact the court can grant that you can move out the UK, there would be a hearing to assess if it is worth it and the benefits on your son, but it's highly possible, so don't give up. And well done for getting this far as a single parent, I have been there since before my daughter was born (its complicated) and raised her until she was 15 months which is when my current partner got involved. Don't give up on anything hunni, and remember its only SD missing out on everything not you or chuck he's got what's important YOU!

P.s. using my partners account to write this.

My daughter's hole in heart was not diagnosed til she was 9. GP picked up heart murmur – same words "I guess you are aware of that?" She had heart op 6 weeks later. She is now 100% fit and well. Could have gone undetected until prggnancy or even early death. Best of luck with campaign.

I've been using the gro clock since my boy was 8months old. Every night after bath and bottle, we have relaxing time in his room under a dim light. Then when it's time for bed, we switch off the light, and use the gro clock.every single night we say byebye to the sun. In the morning, we say hello to the sun. He loves it! I'm hoping it will be useful for when sleep regression happens, at 2, in about 6 months time?!, i think i will introduce the book then and hopefully, fingers crossed, he will understand and it will work its magic through those difficult times.

I really struggle. There are a lot of large shoe shops around Chiltern street in London, but they tend to be really pricey. I love Crispin shoes – tend to be really lovely soft leather shoes, but again, very expensive!

I also lived in men's shoes throughout my early teens. I remember being absurdly excited when a Brantano's opened recently and I managed to get some croc boots in a 10. I was on a high for a week and wore them non stop all winter!

Go Chunk congrats on a 2 year check! That's fantastic. Love the questions or rather your answers. lol So funny. I remember Buba's 2 year check as it wasn't that long ago. As parents we want them to preform their best and Buba was not feeling well and hiding behind me too, while Missy Moo jumped all over me. It was an experience for sure. What a tall boy you have 91st per. I wouldn't worry about his weight I was the fattest baby you ever saw then at four I ran around and was super small as a child. Everyone comments how chunky MM is getting because Buba has always been super skinny. I try to ignore them. Sometimes I start thinking oh no… but she isn't walking or crawling yet. lol Thank you so much for joining in Share With Me this week. Wow, I remember internet dating! I actually met my husband through Match.com but I had a few interesting experiences before that!! It really is a bit of a minefield isn't it? I found there just seemed to be lots of men out there who were using the whole thing as a way of playing one massive vulnerable field! I do miss all the flirting and winking and stuff though! Hope you figure out what to do for the best. By the way I read a great book a couple of years ago called Around the World in 80 Dates by Jennifer Cox. Its a kind of travelogue come memoir of her quest for a partner. I love that kind of thing!

Thank you so much for this. Truely agree. I suffered so much with worrying what people might think if my baby cried in public I simply didn't go out and became agoraphobic. I'm fine now and I am now expecting baby number 2. I've learnt to follow your last bit and 'live my life' I do still often like you observe parents ways of parenting/lack-of parenting. Mostly to pick up better ways on dealing with things, not to judge.

This is a great idea for a regular blog slot. My friend is a single parent and I babysit for her often. She is always on the go and works so hard. One thing I will say though, her relationship with her daughter is so beautiful and they are so incredibly close. I'm not sure she would have that level of closeness if she wasn't raising her daughter alone. I may be wrong, its just something I've observed. I think you are all very strong and do a great job!

This is a really interesting feature, but I admit this interview cuts a little close to the bone at the moment! My husband move abroad with work almost a year ago, days after Potato turned 1. We're still together and his salary allows me to stay at home and raise our son. But he's only made it home 4 times in that year and I find it tough being in this odd half-way situation. I don't know what the future holds for our family at the moment. But as long as Potato is happy, I'm happy

Some really good ideas for fun on a budget here. Green People products are great. It's the white stuff (zinc oxide?) which dries the skin out and makes eczema worse, so if it isn't white and opaque having that missing is probably why it didn't flare his eczema. I will look out for it this summer!

oh congrats, i woke up to day thinking about nursery, my mother in law works in the nursery in a not so good area as well, and what we discussed with her is that if and when our little one will go to nursery it should be hers as she works there and can control staff if they are lacking in something or do not give enough attention, but this morning I started thinking that I just cant drop my own baby in a place wouldnt want to be myself, well at least we have time to think)

It is a very hard decision to make. Even moreso for me when I first went looking for a nursery for Buba as he has severe deadly allergies and I was petrified that something could happen outside my control. He could easily be mixed up with the kids and eat something that could kill him. I lost a lot of sleep at first wondering how I would ever trust him in someone else care. It was soo hard. I finally found a nut free facility and one that caters for his other allergies which helped me relax. But now as MM is about to start in september I am nervous all over again. Thank you so much for you kind words. I am so sorry it has taken me so long to respond, I have literally been overwhelmed by the support I have received. It is all I ever wish that just one person reads my blog and it saves their life, or the life of someone they love. So many people suffer in silence, afraid of being perceived as vain or selfish. It is truly heart breaking. When I first published my blog a very close friend of mine came over and confessed that he suffers from bulimia. He is in his late thirties, he has three sons. I am the only person who knows. He is too ashamed to seek help. Please keep spreading the word and raising awareness. You never know who it might help x

That was really interesting to read. I know that there's also Juiceplus going around at the moment although that allows you to eat a meal for dinner. As someone who suffers from migraines and occasional nausea (for no apparent reason) I'd worry that by midday on day one I'd be throwing up and taken out by a stonking headache. It does sound like there are health benefits, though I'd be interested to know whether you put the weight you lost straight back on after a few days of eating again.

I was lucky enough to review/test the Cinetic with Mumsnet/Dyson, and it is a really great vacuum. Horrifying how much it picks up even when you think the house is clean. Much better than our old Henry which I was never a fan of, but even my OH's coming round (plus it's light enough for the 3yo to use!

I have mostly hardwood floors as I was told carpets are horrible for all of these but you have given me great tips here and I will be doing them including the teddy in the freezer trick pronto!!! Makes me want to go scrub my entire house top to bottom. lol Thanks for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

Good luck hunny. Best thing for me to keep motivated and I know this may sound demented or wrong but I cut out body figures (reasonable ones not models) that I want to have or be similar to I tape them to the inside of the cupboard and on the fridge and on my closet door to remind me this is what I am a striving to become and then if I am falling off the wagon I put a picture of my own tummy up there to remind me this is what I will stay if I don't do something about it. Usually on my closet door no one wants to see our mummy tummies on the fridge. hahaha I cut my face out of it though. lol But I am motivated by imagery so you just need to find what motivates you. Don't let snacks and goodies come into your home either. It's hard to eat bad if it's not in your house. If you can't do that tape a model on the snack cupboard that keeps me out! lol We all know they don't snack. hahahahaha Just a little fun way to motivate. Sorry I have no serious way to do it as I am always falling off the wagon too. #prose4t

Hello there… popped over from the #weekendbloghop. Not sure I have any motivational tips I'm afraid, as I struggle with that side of the equation too. But it sounds like your approaching it with the right mindset and a plan, so all the very best of luck in achieving what you want.

Good luck! As a dad (who could also do with losing a couple of pounds or 20), my wife and I have found that it's much easier to do dieting together than individually. Even if one of us is sneakily snacking behind the other's back (ahem, I would *never* do that. Honest, guv) that moral support, encouragement and occasional guilt-tripping seems to give us that extra little bit of motivation.

  • @SarahAnneDG

    11th July 2014 at 10:36 pm

I loved this post, it sounds like that course is really good. It's so hard as a parent to ever feel as if you're getting it right. I was a single parent until my oldest boy was five. He is 12 now and my partner and I have another son together, and all that throws up questions about parenting quality and getting balances right…the guilt that comes with parenting can make it very difficult to see the positives. I love the idea of your blog post focusing on the positives.
