#My3Things Positive Parenting Motivator: Week 3

3rd August 2014
As you know #My3Things is my way to try to value myself and my parenting a bit more, so I have created this and a linky for other bloggers to join in with too.

Each week I list three things that have not gone so well that week, three things I want to focus on improving next week, and ending the post with three things I’ve done really well. The reason it’s in this order is because you should always end on a positive!

It’s not about telling yourself off, or criticising, it’s about self improvement and recognising the skills and good things about us which we always ignore. Yes it starts by looking at what wasn’t too good, but this is so you can reflect on why these may have gone wrong and then look at how to avoid this next week- we learn from our mistakes!

The linky is to keep me and you guys motivated- thanks to Being Tilly’s Mummy and Mummy’s Blog  for joining in last week, it was so good to read similar feelings and daily life issues as my own! And if you don’t have time to write a post like this, feel free to link up with one you have written this week showing happy parenting times and achievements!

3 Things That Were Not So Good This Week

  • My lack of sleep. It seems to be getting worse! I tell myself everyday I will get an early night, but by midnight I am still up getting things done and not wanting to attempt to go to sleep. But I then feel rough the next day and it does affect my tolerance and patience levels, so for Chunk’s sake I need to get strict!
  • Diet has been pants this week when it comes to some of my snacks.
  • Shouting at Chunk occasionally during his tantrums rather than keeping my cool.

3 Things I Want To Focus On Next Week

  • Setting an earlier bedtime for myself and sticking to it.
  • Carrying on finding fun things for me and Chunk to do as he is getting very hyper at the moment, such as planning more arts and crafts.
  • Avoiding shouting and keeping my voice low and firm.

3 Things I’ve Done WELL This Week

  • I have continued to reduce the amount of times I threaten to use time out, instead using it in my head as you are supposed to.
  • I have started to have Slim Fast for most of my breakfasts, and reduced a lot of my night time snacking this week.
  • I have been persevering with his martial arts even though he continues to have tantrums- he really isn’t used to groups where he has to follow instructions from a leader. I have managed to keep my cool despite being a bit embarrassed!

I completely agree about finding more fun things to do. I find we can get stuck in a rut doing the same things over and over again.
How old is Chunk? I have a feeling our boys are around the same age.
    Thanks for the linky x

Hello there, that's such a great idea-I am going to do my best to do this! And I am totally with you on the taking instruction issue, my little boy is three and will not follow instructions, he'd much rather just run about! #ssamazingachievements

Reminds me a little of Action Learning in that you are setting action points and then reporting back so keeping that accountability. Interesting and hope it pays lots of dividends. Have a lovely week

I started a diet a few days ago and have failed already – again! Always struggle to stick to them. I think I need to set a bedtime for myself too. Always stay up late and then feel it the next day! Thanks for linking up to the #binkylinky

I absolutely know what you mean about sleep! I am exactly the same. I hope that you manage to get in some earlier nights. This is a great idea for a linky. #binkylinky
