Dog Walking in Winter: Review of Regatta’s Winter Range of Women’s Walking Jackets and Dog Coats

5th December 2020

The weather’s really turned this week hasn’t it?!

There’s snow possibly on it’s way here, which is fitting for December, but it’s not practical when you need to go out and about.

I love snuggling under blankets on days like this, but the dog still needs walking!

We live on the coast so are exposed to the elements, namely the coastal winds, so wrapping up warm is vital.

Taking my dog, Yogi, for his daily walks to the beach, parks or across the South Downs is so enjoyable, but my motivation certainly reduces during winter months.

Lockdown has taught me how important getting outside is for my mental health though, so I’ve looked into things that can help maintain my motivation to get outside.

Women’s Waterproof Walking Jacket

I’ve got walking boots for muddy days, but was lacking in a proper walking coat for me and Yogi until Regatta got in touch.

Regatta have gifted Yogi and I jackets of our choice, so I thought I’d share what I think of them with you.

I chose the Wentwood V 3-in-1 Waterproof Walking Jacket from the Regatta jacket range.

It’s insulated, hooded and has three wearable options.

I have the coat in navy, but it also comes in black and purple in sizes 10 to 26.

Both Layers Are Worn Here, But The Outer Layer
Can Be Worn Alone For Mild Rainy Days

The jacket can be worn in three ways. The outer layer is great for a rainy day that’s not too cold, so only a lighter coat is needed.

The inner garment’s good for keeping warm on a milder, dry day, and you can wear both layers for warmth and waterproof protection.

I love that I have three ways I can wear it, because it saves me having to buy three different jackets for our crazy, volatile seasons.

I’m also impressed with how warm it keeps me! The day these photos were taken it was windy and so cold, and it kept me a perfect temperature.

My partner (aka the photographer) moaned the whole time about being freezing which is why I noticed how effective this jacket is.

Coat Specifications

The coat is waterproof and has breathable Isotex of 15,000.

The hood has 2-way adjustment and a reinforced peak for enhanced protection.

Can Be Worn On It’s Own

It features a water repellent front zip, inner zip, pocket zips and chin guard, and it even has an inner storm flap with chin guard. This is great for those high south coast winds!

There are adjustable cuffs and Thermo-Guard insulation to keep you warm on those extra cold days.

Dog Coat and Accessories

Regatta have a great range of dog accessories and pet supplies, including coats, collars, leads, beds, blankets and toys.

They have various dog coats for light showers or heavy rain, as well as varying thicknesses for warmth and comfort.

Yogi has the Shep Dog Jacket in Oxford blue. It comes in three sizes and we have the smallest which fits him perfectly.

Like my coat, it’s windproof, waterproof and breathable.

The coat is seam-sealed with a durable water repellent finish. It’s comfortable as it’s lined with soft taffeta.

Yogi Loves The Beach

There’s a buttonhole to allow a lead to feed through on the collar and it has an easy-to-adjust body strap.

I like the reflective strips which help him to be seen on the foggier days or evening walks.

To keep Yogi warm it features Thermo-Guard lightweight insulation too.

It’s definitely lightweight, because Yogi can be fussy with his coats and if they’re too heavy or uncomfortable he refuses to move.

As you can see in the photos he explored the beach and rocks happily in the coat.

Harnesses

To accompany his coat I got the Regatta reflective black dog harness.

We always use harnesses for dogs in our family, because they avoid any tightness or pulling in the neck area.

Harnesses are kinder to their bodies, whilst also being better control and they offer a more secure attachment for the lead.

It comes in three sizes- small, medium and large. This pull-friendly design also has a reflective trim for walking in dull light.

It can be easily adjusted larger to fit with a coat too.

So overall, we loved all of these items and I’m sure you will see us wearing them often this winter on my Instagram!

Regatta gifted us with these two coats and a harness. I chose to review these products because I liked them. All opinions are honest and my own.
