Giveaway: Win 1 of 3 Handmade Woven Facemasks by Maya Moon

I’m giving away handmade facemasks to celebrate a social enterprise that’s been created to support small Guatemalan business owners.

Maya Moon has been created by talented photographer Abbie Prior, with the aim to preserve the traditional arts of Mayan culture.

 Maya Moon began in Antigua Guatemala in 2020 when Abbie met The Women’s Collective of Sanik in Sololá.

These women use the ancient tradition of back-strap weaving to make material for their reusable, artisan masks. This method results in high-quality woven designs that are completely unique.

The weaver ties the loom to her waist and controls the movement of the weave using slight body motions.

It’s a highly skilled art that’s passed down from their ancestors.

Before the pandemic these women were also making table runners, bracelets, and handbags, but now their only source of income is through these beautiful masks.

The eco-friendly masks come in five main colours: Woodland, Pastel, Black and White, Ocean and Multicolour. There are two main designs- head strap or ear strap, depending on what is most comfortable for you.

Maya Moon are currently in the process of researching and finding other beautiful Mayan products to ship and send to the UK.
