Our Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning Fundraiser

Yesterday I helped my friend run a her very first coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Approximately 2 million people in this country are currently living with cancer and this number will double by 2030. One in three of us will get cancer and the amazing staff at Macmillan provide medical, emotional, practical and even financial support through this scary, life threatening disease.

They have helped many of my loved ones in the last months of their lives and I will remain forever indebted to them, which is why I was happy to be involved with raising some money for them through this coffee morning.

The idea is that they want to run the world’s biggest coffee morning which was supposed to be in September, but you can run one anytime during the year you like! You invite your friends and family and charge them for cakes and drinks that you make.

In preparation for the morning, Chunk and I made a range of cakes the day before. Unfortunately my giant cupcake collapsed, but thankfully our butterfly cupcakes saved the day!

I then helped my friend to organise all of the cakes that her rather talented daughter and sister baked, and using the free Macmillan info pack, we were able to price the cakes up, decorate the table and room and set up a raffle.

Prizes were donated by my friend’s family which included jewellery, bags and perfumes, and a friend even sold glitter tattoos during the morning!

I was chief coffee and tea maker (because my friend has never used a cafetiere can you believe it?!) and Chunk was the entertainment!

It was a long, but enjoyable day and today my friend took the remaining cakes into her workplace to sell to her colleagues.

So far £150 has been raised and a lot of fun has been had and it’s definitely something I would love to do again.

There’s still time to run your own coffee morning and I urge you to do it for the charity, the food, the friends and of course the fun!

My friend and I organise a similar one every year and we always have a fabulous turnout. Having had cancer a few years ago I know just how important it is to support this fabulous organisation. Many congrats.

It's great that you clubbed together with a friend. £150 is a great sum of money for this great charity.
