Potty Training Out & About: My Carry Potty Review

So as you know, I’m slowly introducing potty training to my 15-month-old, and have found the perfect potty for home;- but what happens when we’re out and about?

I have a vivid memory of me as a young child returning from holiday on a long car journey, desperately needing the toilet. My dad pulled over in a motorway layby and my mum tried to convince me to squat at the side of a road behind a small bush.

I remember being absolutely horrified that she wanted me to attempt to pee on the floor, (and a dirty one at that), whilst cars whizzed past at a hundred miles an hour! I was so embarrassed and it felt so wrong not sitting on a toilet, that I just couldn’t pee!

Ever since then, I’ve always inwardly cringed and felt embarrassed for any kids I’ve noticed in parks or on the high street having to endure the same mortifying experience, and thankfully I may have found a way of my son avoiding this same ordeal!

My Carry Potty is the only travel potty that’s 100% leak and odour proof, which is why it caught my eye!

It has a vacuum-sealed clip shut lid that stores their ‘contents’ until you can find somewhere discreet to empty it, and you don’t need to buy any environmentally unfriendly bags as it’s bag-less!

My son loved the packaging and got straight into it, grabbing the Carry Potty by its cute handle.

He loved the little book, ‘George & Hollie and the Magic Carry Potties’ that came with it, which even includes a handy reward chart and stickers.

I liked that the book has the Carry Potty in the illustrations so he can link how the characters use the potty to how he can when we’re out and about.

The potty comes in three colours: yellow multi coloured, pink or blue. I chose blue, to hopefully appeal to both my son and nephew, and this weekend they both got to try it when I took them to Stanmer Park and then to a BBQ.

It’s really light, so thankfully didn’t add more weight to my usual ‘outing bag’ consisting of nappies, wipes, drinks, snacks, creams, spare clothes and other back-breaking items!

The handle can easily clip onto the buggy handles and won’t get in the way, or take up space in the buggy basket too.

My nephew is right in the midst of his potty training, took to it straight away when we were in the middle of Stanmer Park without a toilet in sight.

We found a bush, but unlike my trauma, he got to sit on a proper potty seat and was able to do his business quietly and quickly.

I then carried it for the duration of our walk and by the time we left for our BBQ it was all still contained and didn’t stink out my car, so was a definite success!

Avoiding the stress of trying to get a child to do their business in a public place and hoping it will not go EVERYWHERE (which encourages those disapproving looks from passers-by) makes this potty a must-have for me.

It’s also handy for me to take to whoever’s looking after my son while I work, as it’s the same consistent object wherever he goes so he will hopefully use it with ease!

It will also be ideal to take to nursery when he starts there in the not so distant future.
